FINAL RESULTS
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – After three rounds of play, the Nova Southeastern University women's golf team, under first-year head coach
Heather Wall, finished tied for third overall at the 2016 Ross Resorts Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Sharks shot a three-round 927 (308-307-312) on the par-72, 6,271-yard Mid Pines Golf Club course.
"Even though we didn't play like we were capable of playing today, there are still a ton of positives that we can take away from this tournament," Wall said. "It's a long season and each week we are going to continue to improve, believe in our abilities and trust in our process."
Out of the 11 teams competing, the No. 4 Sharks tied with Sunshine State Conference rival No. 9 Lynn (306-310-311) with identical scores of 927. The top-ranked host Rollins won the tournament beating the field by eight strokes with three-round 905 (299-306-300) score, while No. 2 Barry finished second at 913 (311-298-304). No. 18 Lee rounded out the top five with a score of 929.
Individually for the Sharks,
Aldana Foigel (So., Plottier, Argentina) led the team with a ninth-place finish overall out of 62 individual competitors with a three-round 229 (+13). Junior
Michelle Ruiz (Ontario, Canada) was just one stroke back and tied for 10
th with a three-round score of 230 (+14), and
Sophie Madden (So., Essex, England) tied for 16
th at 234. Rounding out the team scores,
Janelle Johnson (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) finished 21
st overall and
Jamie Freedman (Jr., Miami Beach, Fla.) finished tied for 34
th. Playing as an individual,
Katrina Wang (Sr., Shenzhen, China) tied for 42
nd overall.
Both Charlotte Puts from Barry and Caroline Moore from Lee finished tied for individual medalist honors after completing the three rounds of play with a 5-over-par score of 221. Puts ended up taking home the individual medalist title by shooting the lowest score in the final round at 72 (E).
With the early start to the 2016 fall season, the Sharks will have two weeks before getting back into action when they travel to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. to participate in the Jacksonville Classic hosted at the Marsh Landing Country Club.
