Sharks, Eagles Set for Non-Conference Clash Wednesday

NSU knocked off ERAU 2-1 in 2015

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern hopes to put its current three-game skid in the rearview mirror when it travels to face Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET.

The Sharks nearly returned to the win column their last time out, but were unable to overcome an early penalty kick conversion by the 21st-ranked Tampa Spartans. Tampa grabbed the 1-0 advantage in the 10th minute, however, was otherwise heavily outplayed by Nova Southeastern. Head coach Matt Watts' club not only outshot the Spartans 10-0 in the final 45 minutes, but also owned a lopsided 12-1 corner kick margin throughout the entirety of the match. Overall, Nova Southeastern has earned a combined 25 corner kicks in its previous two contests, yet has failed to capitalize in either of its opening pair of SSC contests.

The recent stretch of losses has thrown shade over Nova Southeastern (2-4, 0-2 SSC) as a collective whole, nonetheless the Sharks' defensive effort should hardly go unnoticed. Not only did Nova Southeastern limit a Tampa squad that previously averaged a league-best 4.5 goals per game to just one lone score, but the Sharks have permitted a notable 0.80 goals per game since September 6.

Facing a struggling Embry-Riddle (1-3-1) squad, though, may be just what the Sharks need to shake their current funk on the offensive end of the field. The Eagles have allowed at least two goals in each of their five matches in 2016, good enough for a league-worst 3.4 goals-against average. In addition, the Eagles will enter Wednesday night fresh off a tough 6-2 defeat at home to Barry this past weekend. Embry-Riddle trailed just 3-2 in the 70th minute, yet surrendered three unanswered goals down the stretch, equaling its worst loss of the season.

Behind a pair of goals from former Sharks, Nate Bladecki and Stefano Fanfoni, NSU edged ERAU 2-1 in the programs' lone meeting a year ago.
