Nova Southeastern Eyes Upset Over No. 2 Lynn Saturday

Sharks earned last ranked win against Fighting Knights in 2013

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – This Saturday presents a special opportunity for the Nova Southeastern men's soccer team, as the Sharks will have the chance to pick up their first win over a ranked opponent since 2013 when they welcome No. 2 Lynn to the NSU Soccer Complex.

Coincidentally, Nova Southeastern's last victory against a Top-25 opponent came three years prior at home versus the then-defending national champion Fighting Knights, despite winning just three matches overall that season. The Sharks jumped out to a 3-0 cushion early in the second half before closing out the contest on the positive end of the final 4-1 margin.

Santiago Camacho, Viktor Jonsson and Michael Rosario are the only players from that 2013 squad that remain on this season's club that looks to rid itself of its current four-game losing streak following a 2-0 defeat at Embry-Riddle Wednesday night.

Now 2-5, and 0-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, the Sharks surrendered both goals to the Eagles in the first 11 minutes of the match, an uncommon theme for a team that entered allowing just 0.80 goals over its previous five contests. Nova Southeastern outshot Embry-Riddle 11-3 the rest of the way, but continued its struggles in the final third and have now been held scoreless over its last 419 minutes of play.

Lynn heads to Fort Lauderdale after suffering its first loss of the season, a 3-0 shutout versus 11th-ranked Barry two days ago. The Fighting Knights roared out of the gate to begin the year, knocking off reigning national champion Pfeiffer en route to a perfect 5-0 start. However, head coach Jon Rootes' club has since compiled a record of 1-1-1, being shut out twice in the process.

The key factor will be whether or not the Sharks can hold Lynn forward Jack Watson in check Saturday night. The three-time SSC Player of the Week to open the year, Watson has already notched eight goals in his first eight starts as a Fighting Knight. In Lynn's draw and loss, though, the redshirt-junior has had trouble shaking free of the defense, failing to record a point in either match.
