FORT LAUDERDALE – After opening the 2016 campaign at home, the Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (4-0) will head to Pueblo, Colo. this weekend to compete in the annual ThunderWolves Classic hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo Sept. 9-10.
The Sharks are coming off a 4-0 weekend where they swept through their competition at the Ninth Annual Sharks Invitational. Their win streak included a five-set victory over No. 11 Rockhurst. NSU's
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) led all offensive players in the tournament with 92 points (5.41 pts/set), 84 kills (4.94 kills/set) and finished with a .267 hitting percentage. She topped out with a season and career best 29 kills against over the preseason ranked Hawks. She also had three straight double-double performance in kills and digs.
Katie Pyles (Sr., Denver, Colo.) returns to her home state for a full weekend of competition. Last week, she guided the Sharks offensive attack that resulted in a 4-0 start this season. She finished the invitational with a 10.82 assist/set average and added 1.65 kills/set, 41.5 points, 2.59 digs/set and nine total blocks. Newcomers
Tashalyn Begon (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Jessica Ronyak (Sr., Burton, Ohio) also posted solid debut performances for the Sharks.
THUNDERWOLVES CLASSIC
CSU-Pueblo is hosting the annual classic volleyball invitational in the Massari Arena. The tournament will feature No. 3 Wayne State (Neb.), Texas A&M Kingsville, Western State, CSU-Pueblo, Nova Southeastern and Adams State. The tournament begins on Sept. 8 with the host team playing Western State, followed by a full slate of competition Sept. 9-10. Live stats will be available for all matches and video streaming for selected matches.

NSU will begin the tournament at 9 a.m. MST (11 a.m. EST) on Friday against Wayne State (Neb.) followed by a 3 p.m. EST match against Western State (Colo.). It will be a battle of the undefeated teams as NSU faces off with Wayne State to start. Both teams are 4-0 going into the tournament with Wayne State ranked No. 3 in the AVCA top-25 Division II poll. This will be the second straight nationally ranked team the Sharks will have faced to start the 2016 season. In the afternoon match, the Sharks will face a 3-1 Western State team whose only loss this season came at the hands of No. 3 Western State.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, the Sharks will wrap up tournament play in Pueblo by facing the 3-2 Adams State Grizzlies at 9 a.m. MST (11 a.m. EST). Their final match to conclude competition will be against Texas A&M Kingsville at 3 p.m. EST. The Javelinas come into the tournament undefeated at 5-0 to start the 2016 season.
