HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | Down by one, 11-10, the Knights took off on a 14-2 run to leave the Sharks in the dust and take set one 25-12.
SET 2 | The first set didn't extinguish NSU's fire as the home team bounced back to grab the second set. At 8-8, the Sharks took advantage of a 5-0 run to take the lead and never look back. The Sharks took a commanding 16-10 lead after a
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer kill, forcing Lynn to call timeout. The Knights fought back to come within three, 19-16, but that would be as close as they would get as NSU went on to even the score, 1-1, with a 25-17 win.
SET 3 | With the Sharks ahead 4-2 early in the set, the Knights were able to battle and steal the lead with a 4-1 run and maintain the lead for the remainder of the set. A kill by
Kim Blasko and a Lynn error cut the deficit to two points, 21-19, late in the set, but four consecutive points by the Knights capped the game with Lynn on top 25-19.
SET 4 | Down 8-1 in the fourth, the Sharks rallied back with a 9-2 run to knot the game, 10-10, and keep going to take a 15-11 lead. Four consecutive points by Lynn tied the game up again, 15-15, and the two teams battled for the lead until at 18-18, the momentum went back onto NSU's side and the Sharks were ahead 23-19. A kill by the Knights brought it to 23-20 but a
Kim Blasko kill and an ace by
Rachael Nelson gave the Sharks a 25-20 win and forced the fifth and final set.
SET 5 | The closest set of the night, the fifth was a thriller from the beginning, as the set saw 10 ties in total. Down 8-6, the Sharks put up three-straight points to tie the game and force Lynn to use its first timeout. The two teams exchanged points until Lynn was able to put up back-to-back points for a 13-11 edge and NSU used one of their timeouts. Back-to-back errors by the Knights tied the game, 13-13. Down to the wire, tied at 14-14, the Sharks were just a point away from victory twice, 15-14 and 16-15, but were unable to finish and Lynn eventually earned the final-set win, 18-16.
