No. 3 Swimming Tops Indian River in Dual Meet

Sharks win 21 total events with six B-Cut times and one A-Cut.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 3 Nova Southeastern men's and women's swim team hosted the Indian River State College Pioneers in a dual meet on Friday afternoon at the NSU Aquatic Complex, winning on both sides.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Sharks grabbed the first two first-place finished on both sides of the 200 yard medley relay. The women finished in 1:44.48 while the men finished in 1:33.23.
  • The Sharks gathered 21 first-place finishes with six NCAA B-Cut times and one A-Cut.
  • The A-Cut time came from the women's 200 freestyle, where the Sharks swam a 1:34.72, .04 faster than the qualifying time.
 
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Madison Yelle earned the first individual victory and NCAA B-Cut time for NSU in the 1,000 yard freestyle in 10:25.29.
  • Samuel Brettman notched a win in the 1,000 free on the men's side, finishing in 9:37.22, and also earned the final individual victory of the day in the 400 yard individual medley in 4:04.45.
  • In the 200 yard freestyle, Emma Sundstedt and Franco Lupoli both claimed first place finishes for the Sharks, finishing in 1:53.60 and 1:40.53, respectively. The pair also went on to sweep the 500 freestyle, with times of 5:01.79 and 4:38.44, respectively. Sundstedt's time was good enough for another B-Cut time.
  • Jenna Johns earned a victory in the 100 yard backstroke with a B-Cut time of 56.47, while Malin Westman grabbed the win in the 100 breastroke in 1:05.21. Johns notched another win in the 100 butterfly in another B-Cut time of 55.40 while Westman also took first place in the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:20.61.
  • Cory Klemm secured the sweep in the 100 breast in 57.85.
  • Caroline Oster collected the 10th victory of the day for NSU in the 200 butterfly in 2:06.02.
  • Sydney Panzarino continues to impress in the freestyle races, grabbing first place finishes in both the 50 (23.52) and 100 (52.41). Her win in the 50 free was another B-Cut time for the Sharks, the third of the day.
  • On the men's side of the 50 yard freestyle, Julian Coster picked up a win in 20.98.
  • Courtney DeVeny notched two wins on Friday, in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.68 and in the 400 yard individual medley with a NCAA B-Cut time of 4:28.19.
 
 
UP NEXT: 
The Sharks will return to Sunshine State Conference competition on Dec. 2 as it hosts Tampa, ranking No. T10 on the men's side and No. T14 on the women's, at the NSU Aquatic Center.
