Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team rounded out its 2017 season with a 3-0 loss to the Tampa Spartans on Saturday afternoon in the Rick Case Arena. Before the match, the NSU department of athletics, the volleyball team and their families celebrated their three seniors,
Kaelyn Brock,
Jane Early and
Ashlyn Hill.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | The Sharks held the lead in the beginning of set one, 4-2, before a 7-3 run by the Spartans pushed the visitors out in front 9-7, kicking off a six-point unanswered run by UT, forcing NSU to call for a timeout. Tampa continued to add points in short runs, grabbing their largest lead of the match, 20-9. The Sharks were able to use kills by
Maddie Uilk and
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer and an error by the Spartans for a three-point run, but Tampa was able to get the ball back on their side and close the set 25-13.
SET 2 | Tampa was hot to start in set two, taking a 12-4 lead and forcing NSU to use their first timeout. The Sharks returned to the floor with back-to-back points by
Jane Early and
Samantha Blasko. Six points was as close as NSU would get to the Spartans for the rest of the set, however, as Tampa ended up on top, 25-14 for a 2-0 advantage.
SET 3 | Down 7-1, the Sharks cut the deficit to three points, 7-4, with a kill by Tyler-Palmer, an ace by
Samantha Blasko and an error by UT. Tampa jumped out again with a 14-8 lead, before NSU came within three points again, 14-11, with another three-point run. That would be as close as they would get, however, as Tampa outscored the Sharks 11-4 to the end the game, 25-15, for the 3-0 win.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Tyler-Palmer led the Sharks with 19 kills, adding eight digs.
- Early and Nicole Rivera each had three kills apiece.
- Samantha Blasko notched a double-double on the day, tallying 24 assists and 13 digs.
- Megan Burns had five assists while her and Kaelyn Brock each picked up six digs.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Tyler-Palmer finished the season with a total of 484 kills, taking second place all-time in the NSU record books for kills in an individual season.

With the conclusion of the season, the Sharks will wait to hear Sunshine State Conference All-Conference teams and well as All-Region selection in the next couple weeks.
