LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's golf team concluded the three-round Lady Moc Golf Classic on Tuesday afternoon. The No. 7 Sharks carded a three-round 913 (+49) over the 54-hole event to finish tied for sixth place on the 6,085-yard, par-72 Grassland Golf Course to close out tournament play.
No. 2 Barry held onto their 36-hole lead through the conclusion of the final round to capture the tournament team title with a three-round score of 895 (+31). No. 8 Saint Leo moved up a spot from the previous rounds to finished second overall at 898 (+34) followed by No. 6 Rollins (+36) in third place. Host Florida Southern (+39) and West Florida (+47) rounded out the top-five teams respectively.
For NSU,
Jamie Freedman continued to lead the Sharks' efforts on the links finishing sixth overall out of a field of over 100 players. Over three rounds, the junior carded a score of 221 to finish five over par.
Michelle Ruiz finished tied for 17
th overall with a three-round 227 (+11), while
Aldana Foigel and
Sophie Madden each shot the same score in each of the three rounds to finished tied for 36
th at 233 (+17).
Janelle Johnson wrapped up the team standings in 49
th. Playing as an individual, Kristina Wang tied for 33
rd overall.
Both Tuan-Yu Chiang of Seminole State and Marie Coors from Saint Leo finished as co-champions of the tournament at two-under-par, but Chiang won the tie-breaker by playing the final three holes at two-under to take home the individual medalist trophy.
The Sharks will have a one-week break before heading back out on the links when they travel to Winter Springs, Fla. Mar. 13-14 to compete in the annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins College.
