TAMPA, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team grabbed a 4-2 win in the opening game of its three-game series with the Tampa Spartans this Friday evening at Naimoli Family Field.
The Sharks (11-12, 4-3 SSC) were the first to get on the board early in the first inning when
Ashley Roe's two-RBI single up the middle scored
Dana Edmundson and
Dakota Villella, who both led off with singles.
That would be the only scoring of the game until the bottom of the sixth inning when Tampa used a two-RBI single of their own by Makaleigh Dooley to knot the game, 2-2.
With one out on the board, back-to-back singles by
Mary Acosta and Edmundson put the Sharks in scoring position. After a foul out by Villella, the next batter,
Lexie Storrer sent a two-RBI double to left center to give NSU back its two-run lead, and the eventual 4-2 victory.
Edmundson finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Storrer was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Roe was also 1-for-3 with her two RBI and Acosta was 1-for-3 and scored once.
Storrer earned yet another win for the Sharks in the circle, pitching all 7.0 innings and only allowing two runs on four hits.
Tampa's Corynn Miner took the loss, going the distance and giving up four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
The three-game series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. For live coverage, head to NSUSharks.com, or follow @NSU_Softball on Twitter.
