MELBOURNE, Fla. – On the final day of the series against Florida Tech, the Nova Southeastern softball team dropped both ends to the Panthers, 10-2 (5 INN) and 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Nancy Bottge Field.
The Sharks fall to 20-19 overall and 8-7 in the Sunshine State Conference, while FIT improves to 21-18 on the season and 6-6 against the league.
GAME ONE
It has become a habit this season for leadoff batter
Dana Edmundson sends one over the fence in the top of the first. Today was no different. The junior centerfielder put the Sharks ahead, 1-0, early with a bomb to right field.
FIT responded in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game 1-1 with on a ground out.
Edmundson decided to take matters in her own hands again, putting the Sharks back in the lead, 2-1, with yet another solo homerun to right to lead off the inning. However, that would stand as the last run the Sharks would tally as the Panthers exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third and tacked on two more over the next two innings to ensure the run-rule win.
Edmundson was 2-for-3 with her two RBI while
Lexie Storrer,
Alex Suzuki,
Ashley Roe,
Megan Granitto and
Mary Acosta accounted for the rest of the seven hits recorded by the Sharks.
Erica Winter (6-7) took the loss, working all 4.2 innings and allowing 10 runs (8 ER) on eight hits.
GAME TWO
To no one's surprise, Edmundson led off the game with her third solo homer of the day, giving NSU another early 1-0 edge and tallying the lone run of the game for the Sharks.
After two scoreless frames, Florida Tech knotted the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth before a three-run homerun by Krista Patterson pushed the home team ahead, 4-1, eventually giving them the winning score.
Edmundson went 1-for-2 and
Dakota Villella, Storrer and Roe each recorded a hit of their own.
Storrer's (14-8) win streak was broken after the Shark's starting pitcher gave up four runs on six hits in her 6.0 innings in the circle.
The Sharks will return back to the friendly confines of the AD Griffin Sports Complex for a three-game series against Rollins College beginning on Friday, Apr. 7 at 6:00 p.m. For live coverage, head to NSUSharks.com, or follow @NSU_Softball on Twitter.
