MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team (8-8, 5-4 SSC) finished with a winning record in the Sunshine State Conference under first-year head coach Doug Neagle as they defeated Florida Tech (12-9, 1-6 SSC) by score of 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
"This is a great win for us," head coach Doug Neagle said. "We used the momentum from yesterday and executed well today. LP (Luicelena Perez) capped off a great week finishing 4-0 in both singles and doubles. We still have two more matches to go and we look to finish strong before the conference tournament."
For the second match in a row, the Sharks went into singles with a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches. Once again, Simone Pratt and Nastassia Rubel drew first blood and improved their record to 14-0 with an 8-1 win over Alahna Reto and Kayla Hergott at No. 2. Perez and Isabella Lowrey followed with their fourth win in a row defeating Erin Egoroff and Meritt Rabson, 8-2 at No. 1. Arina Sharonova and Alex Kaeser secured the sweep with an 8-4 victory over Lauren Stuckey and Paloma Vela at No. 3.
Perez started the singles matches improving her record to 15-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Egoroff at No. 1. The Panthers answered with a win at No. 4, but Rubel would secure the win at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Herogtt. Pratt kept the momentum going picking up her third consecutive win at No. 2 defeating Reto, 6-4, 6-3. Florida Tech ended the day picking up wins at No. 5 and 6 to finalize the score at 6-3.
The Sharks will play their final road game of the season in Miami, Fla to face NAIA program St. Thomas on Wednesday, Apr. 12 at 2:00 p.m.
