FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In its first Swimmers of the Week release, the Sunshine State Conference awarded
Emma Sundstedt and
Alessandro Xella the titles after their high-point finishes at the Shark Invitational on Oct. 5-6.
The two swimmers helped lead the Sharks to wins at the Shark Invitational, as both teams topped the competition by at least 150 points.
Sundstedt tallied a meet-high 74 points, earning her the Michael D. Fish Women's High Point Award. The sophomore picked up wins in the 500 freestyle (5:02.26) and the 1000 freestyle (10:16.73) while helping the 400 freestyle relay to a first-place finish in 3:33.23.
In his first meet as a Shark, Xella tallied a meet-high 76 points, earning him the men's side of the Michael D. Fish High Point Award. The freshman finished on top in the 200 IM (1:53.98), the 200 backstroke (1:52.22) the 400 IM (4:04.70).
NSU will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 20 as they open SSC competition at Tampa. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
