HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME 1

The Sharks fell into an early 4-0 hole, as the Eagles chased NSU starter Derik Beauprez out of the game in just 1.2 innings of work. Ryan Maya relieved Beauprez and was dominant, tossing 3.2 innings of baseball and allowing just two hits. NSU would score in each of the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to take a 5-4 lead.

Dylan Harris was the first Shark to cross the plate after Brendan Cutting grounded out to second. Nick Gallo drove in the Sharks second run of the ballgame in the fifth inning, scoring Duran. The sixth inning looked as if the NSU bats were going to break it open, as Andrew Liberty and Harris were in scoring position with no outs. After two strikeouts from Jake Anchia and Cutting, Ian Acevedo delivered a clutch two-out double to left center, tying the ballgame at 4-4. NSU took the lead in the seventh when Gallo scored on a wild pitch.

The NSU bullpen was the story of this game. Maya, Cameron Churchill, Michael Gizzi, and Joe Strzelecki combined to throw 7.1 innings without allowing a single earned run. The only run the Eagles scored against the Sharks' bullpen was an unearned run against Maya.

GAME 2
As was the case in each game this weekend, the Sharks once again found themselves trailing in the early innings. A two-run fourth would give NSU its first lead, though, before reeling off nine unanswered to run away with the victory.

Three innings after a Gallo single into center knotted the contest at 4-4, Anchia said goodbye to the 1-1 offering from Eagles' starter Daniel Agramont for his sixth homer already this season.

As the NSU offense continued to pile on runs, reliever Ronny Orta produced arguably his best performance in two seasons as a Shark. Taking over for Brady Acker in the bottom of the fifth, Orta struck out the side on his way to setting down 10 straight batters.

STATS OF THE NIGHT:

  •  In game one, NSU's bullpen combined to throw 7.1 innings while allowing an earned run.
  •  Gallo had a game-high three hits for the Sharks in game one, marking the most hits he's had in one game as a Shark.
  • Gallo continued his impressive weekend at the plate in game two with three more hits, while Acevedo tallied his third straight multi-hit effort.
  • Orta picked up his first win of the season after recording a career-high nine strikeouts in four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
