HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Sharks allowed the fans to settle in Saturday before unleashing an offensive explosion that included a total of four home runs and 14 hits. Following a scoreless first inning, Nova Southeastern manufactured a pair of runs on a
Nathan Chevalier bases-loaded walk and a
Jeffrey Cyr sacrifice fly to left. An inning later,
Ian Acevedo added a sac fly of his own to go along with a
Christian Demby RBI-single into center, as the Sharks extended their lead to 4-0 in the third.
The offense was only beginning to pick up steam, though. Following a trio of walks in the bottom of the fourth, Anchia jumped all over the first pitch from Sailfish starter Johnnie Schneider, belting a grand slam over the wall in left. The home run party continued in the fifth, too, when
Dylan Harris recorded his fourth dinger of the season on a two-run blast over the left-field foul pole. Back at the plate in the sixth, Anchia launched his second homer in as many plate appearances, this time hammering a solo shot to the deepest part of the park in straight-away center.
As the bats terrorized the Palm Beach Atlantic pitching staff, Acker mowed through the Sailfish lineup. The right-hander surrendered just one earned run in eight innings of work, scattering four hits and walking only two. The outing was so impressive that Acker even set down 13 in a row at one point on a measly 39 pitches.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
- Ian Valenzuela belted his first career homer on a no-doubt shot in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- The Sharks rattled off five innings in which they scored at least two runs, including four straight through innings 2-6.
- An astounding 12 different players tallied at least one hit in the win, with Anchia being the only Shark to record a multi-hit game.
- Following a 1-for-3 day at the dish, Andrew Liberty continues to lead the SSC in batting average at .431.
