Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team suffered back-to-back heartbreaking losses as the Eckerd Tritons rallied to claim both games in the double header and the series sweep over the Sharks in walk-off fashion in St. Petersburg on Friday afternoon.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):
FINAL SCORE: Eckerd Tritons 4 (W: J. Gaburo, 2-3), Nova Southeastern Sharks 3 (L: D. Sprengers, 6-4)
RECORDS: NSU (16-18, 5-9 SSC), FC (16-18, 6-10 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 2ND: Domonique Sprengers put the Sharks on the board when she took an 0-2 pitch over the wall for her first homerun as a Shark.
TOP 4TH: After
Dana Edmundson threw out a runner at home in the bottom of the third, the senior launched the first pitch of the fourth inning over the right field wall for her second dinger of the season, extending the lead to 2-0.
BOTTOM 6TH: After the Tritons loaded the bases, Kailyn Kramer got Eckerd on the board with a two-out single. Sprengers would end the threat with a flyout.
BOTTOM 7TH: Nikole Van Gennep tied the game with her second homerun of the series to lead off the inning. Eckerd would threaten to walk off with runners on first and second, but Sprengers got a double play and a popup to force extras.
TOP 8TH: Edmundson led off the extra frame with a bang, sending her second homerun over the fence on full count pitch.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks were limited to four hits in the first game, three of which were homeruns.
- Edmundson's multi homerun performance was her first of the season and third as a Sharks
- NSU chased Eckerd's starting pitcher, Ally Costa after three innings.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Edmundson came into the series with one homerun this season.
- The Tritons have won seven of the last eight home games against the Sharks.
- Eckerd outhit the Sharks 12-4.

FINAL SCORE: Eckerd Trtons 4 (W: N. Van Gennep, 12-9), Nova Southeastern Sharks 3 (L. Storrer, 9-14)
RECORDS: NSU (16-19, 5-10 SSC), EC (17-18, 7-10 SSC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 2ND: The Sharks threatened early with a pair of singles, sac bunt and a fielder's choice to load the bases.
Sydney Lageyre broke the score sheet with a single to center scoring
Lexie Storrer.
Kailynn Blackwood then drove in Alex Suziki with a fielder's choice giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead.
BOTTOM 3RD: Eckerd responded with a threat of their own loading the bases with one out. A Chelsea Armstrong fielder's cut the deficit in half at 2-1, but that's all the Tritons would get as Storrer got a groundout to end the inning.
BOTTOM 4TH: An inning later, the Tritons tied the game after a two out double and RBI single by Hannah Famiano.
BOTTOM 8TH: The Tritons walked off on the Sharks for the second time with a Janna Gaburo solo homerun.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Lageyre led the way offensively going 2-2 with an RBI.
- After the second inning, the Sharks were limited to one hit.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- This was the fourth game the Sharks went into extra innings. The Sharks are 0-4 in those contests.
- Both teams left seven runners on base.

NSU will return back to the AD Griffin Sports Complex next weekend to host Tampa in a three-game SSC series starting on Friday, Apr. 6 at 6:00 p.m.
