HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | Tied at 5-5, a
McKenna Tucek kill sparked a 5-1 run by the Sharks, giving the home team a 10-6 edge. Barry responded right away with a 4-0 run to tie things up at 10-10, forcing an NSU timeout, an taking the lead thank to a Shark error after returning to the floor. That would be their last lead of the set, however, as a 7-1 run by NSU started by a kill by
Brittany Landrum pushed the Sharks out to a 17-12 lead. Barry was able to tie it up at 18-18, but a missed serve by the Bucs and back-to-back blocks by
Alex Boone and Tucek gave NSU back the advantage at 21-18. The two teams were back and forth with their points until at 24-23 a kill by
Sami Spadaro ended the set with NSU on top 25-23.
SET 2 | The Bucs had the early momentum on their side, going up 11-4 before NSU used their first timeout. The Sharks were able to get within four multiple times throughout the rest of the set, including at 22-18 with a service ace by
Emily Sippel, but that would be as close as NSU could get as Barry went on to even up the match at a set apiece with a 25-20 win.
SET 3 | Down 8-5 in the third, back-to-back errors by the Bucs and back-to-back kills by Sippel pushed the edge onto NSU's side, 9-8. From there, the set saw eight ties and two lead changes, leading to a set-point score of 24-23 with NSU on top and Barry calling for a timeout. Following the timeout, a Barry block tied it up, 24-24, before a kill by Landrum put the advantage back on NSU's side, 25-24. A kill by Barry's Kishara Gordon tied the game for the last time as kills by Landrum and Spadaro pushed the Sharks to a 27-25 win, giving them the overall 2-1 lead.
SET 4 | Kills by Sippel and Spadaro gave NSU the early edge, one they would hold onto until a 4-0 run by Barry gave the Bucs a one-point lead at 14-13 and forced NSU to call timeout. After the break, a kill by Boone and a solo block by Boone gave NSU back the lead, 15-14. Barry was able to put the advantage back on their side twice more at 19-18 and 21-20, before a 5-1 run by NSU, started with a kill by Boone and ended with a kill by
