Landrum Brings Home SSC Defensive Player Laurels for Second-Straight Week

Landrum earns second career honor

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In as many weeks, Nova Southeastern starting middle Brittany Landrum brings home her second Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week award as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The freshman from St. Cloud, Fla., opened the week with three blocks and four digs in a 3-1 win over Florida Southern, going on to record eight blocks in a win against Eckerd College. Landrum also tallied 18 kills over the course of the weekend, with 10 coming from the FSC game alone. She committed just one hitting error against Florida Southern, finishing with eight kills for a .438 hitting percentage.

"We are all so excited that Brittany is being recognized again for her defensive dominance at the net," boasted head coach Brian Rosen. "This week she did it all for the Sharks. She was incredibly efficient on offense, taking big swing after big swing. Defensively, she continues to impact every swing our opponents take. In one of our biggest matches of the season against Eckerd, she finished with eight blocks. That's a huge number, and still does not start to measure the number of times she influenced a hitter's decision making. My favorite play of the weekend was her swing that was blocked off her head and to the floor for a kill late in the fifth set against Eckerd. When you're playing hard, good things happen!"

The two wins this weekend puts the Sharks two games above .500 in conference play and pass regionally ranked Eckerd in the league standings. NSU will wrap up the regular season this weekend, taking on Embry-Riddle and Florida Tech.
