HOW IT HAPPENED:
North Greenville took an early lead and kept control of the offensive aspects of the game, never allowing Nova Southeastern to get into an offensive rhythm and testing the Sharks' pitching staff with scoring steadily across a six-inning stretch.

The Crusader's offense made the first strike to create some early breathing room, capitalizing on an NSU error to score first with the RBI on John Michael Faile's ground-rule double. NGU first baseman Adam Sasser made the most of having a runner, pushing the Crusaders ahead 3-0 coming out of the second on a two-run homer.

Although NSU shortstop Brandon Chinea didn't let the three-run deficit simmer for too long, leading off the top of the third with a solo home run to right center field, NGU fired right back. The Crusaders reclaimed the run, and more - carrying a 10-1 advantage into the fifth inning to retire starter Matt Ornelas for the day.

Three additional NSU pitchers took the mound, but found challenges in slowing the NGU offense, closing out with Anthony Difede, who went the final 1.2 innings with only a single hit allowed as the Crusaders claimed the series opener on a 17-1 win.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • North Greenville stayed on top of the hitting game with an 18-6 advantage.
  • Ornelas (0-1) took the loss after throwing 3.2 innings.
  • Chinea went 1-for-3 with the Sharks' lone run of the day.
  • Nathan Chevalier led NSU at the plate on 2-for-3 hitting.
  • The series between these teams is split at 2-2.
