Sharks Swimming Ready For 2019 NCAA Div. II Championships

NSU sends 15 individual qualifiers and five relay swimmers/alternates

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Coming off its third-consecutive men's Sunshine State Conference victory and a second-place finish for the women, the Nova Southeastern swimming program is more than ready to begin competition in the 2019 NCAA Div. II Championships set to begin on Wednesday, Mar. 13. The championship meet will last through Saturday, Mar. 16 and will be held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

"This year's NCAA meet is going to be just like any other year, even faster and more competitive than the year before," explained head coach Ben Hewitt. "The growth of swimming in Div. II over the past 3-5 years has been exponential not only in terms of the number of teams, but in just talent. I firmly believe that makes the accomplishments of our NCAA qualifiers all the more impressive as they have had to be at their very best to achieve an invitation."

The No. 15 men's squad will be sending eight qualifiers, the No. 5 women's team seven, to the championships, the second most in the SSC. Below is a complete list of Sharks that will compete on the next four days and the events they will compete in:

"Our 15 individual qualifiers sacrificed and work hard consistently throughout the season," said Hewitt. "They were buoyed and pushed by their teammates, sharpened by training and competition and made more resilient through adversity. They will be joined by five individuals who will contribute on our relays, with a goal of improving our team's relay performances this year in an ever more competitive meet. The team has displayed great energy and enthusiasm in their prep these past two weeks."

In order to qualify for the national championships, student-athletes are required to meet NCAA Standard-A or NCAA Standard-B times during the regular season in their respective event(s). All swimmers who post an A-cut automatically qualify, while the rest of the field is made up of the best B-cut times in Division II. At the end of the meet, the team with the highest combined point total will be crowned the overall 2018 NCAA Division II National Champions, while winners of each individual event will be crowned an individual national champion.
