HOW IT HAPPENED:
Starters
Nathan Campbell and Christian Denton duked it out in a stalemate that lasted through seven innings with only one run allowed for each side. The Sharks made the first strike, as
Mike Rojas delivered on an
Andrew Labosky second-inning leadoff single, smacking an RBI double to the right field fence. The Sailfish countered in the third, using consecutive singles to set the table for a Derek Schwimer RBI groundout to even the score at 1-1.
The tie ballgame lasted into the second pitcher for the Sharks,
JP Williams who came in and shut down a two-runner jam in the sixth, but the PBA relief efforts didn't fare as well. The first Sailfish reliever, Heath Hawkins allowed the Sharks to get hot in the eighth. After
Daniel Irisarri led off with a double,
Ian Acevedo reached as a hit batter and Labosky walked.
Nathan Chevalier brought home the go-ahead runs, scoring Irisarri and Acevedo while scoring on an error by PBA shortstop Riley Herold. Labosky and Chevalier followed for a commanding Sharks lead, both scoring on reliever Joey Hennessey wild pitches.
NSU put up insurance runs in the ninth, courtesy of a Labosky RBI single and Chevalier RBI groundout, extending the Sharks advantage to 7-1.
Backing up Campbell and Williams (2-0), the stranded six PBA runners, the NSU defense halted Sailfish threats to score in four innings to keep things even.
