HOW IT HAPPENED:
Although the Sharks fell behind early on right fielder Carson Jones' second-inning, two-out home run, Nova Southeastern was quick to battle back as starter
Devin Meyer (4-0) settled in to contain Lander for his fourth win in as many tries.
Trailing 1-0, the Sharks moved the needle in the top of the fourth, capitalizing on an error that allowed
Garrett Wolforth to move into scoring position, plating the tie run on
Brandon Chinea's RBI single. However, NSU was far from done,
Nathan Chevalier granting the Sharks a 3-1 advantage on a two-run single.
The NSU lead expanded in the fifth, as Wolforth again moved into scoring position, along with
Samuel Duran – the pair crossing home thanks to an
Ian Acevedo two-run single. Drawing a Lander move to the bullpen for Robbie Hoyt to replace starter Alex Moore, the Sharks tacked up a third run in the inning via
Christian Demby scoring from third on a wild pitch.
As the weather system made its final approach, NSU grew its lead to seven runs on
Garrett Wolforth's RBI triple in the top of the sixth. The Bearcats notched an out and a walk in the home half before the rain became untenable, bringing out the tarp with an 8-1 NSU lead. The teams attempted to restart after showers passed, but Mother Nature wouldn't submit, sending the game final.
