FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team continues to add to its 2019 roster, this time on the coaching side. Head coach
Brian Rosen is proud to announce the addition of Lydia Dimke as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Dimke, an NCAA Div. I volleyball student-athlete at Purdue and Creighton and a two-season beach volleyball student-athlete at the University of South Carolina, rounds out the NSU volleyball coaching staff of three, including Rosen and assistant coach
Selene Teitelbaum.
"When I accepted the position as head coach in January, I had two immediate goals: put a strong coaching staff around me and recruit talented student-athletes with the right personalities to create a long-term winning culture here at Nova Southeastern," explained Rosen. "Making sure Selene stayed on board was the first call I made, and I am so excited she said yes. Selene has over 16 years of college coaching experience, including six years as head coach at UC Santa Cruz. She is a former collegiate volleyball player herself, certified strength and conditioning coach, and continues to play beach volleyball professionally. She is a joy to work with every day, and challenges me and our players to get better. Together, we hit the recruiting trail this spring, and could not be more excited about the 12 new Sharks that will join us in the fall.
"We have hit the jackpot with Lydia Dimke. As a student-athlete at Purdue and Creighton, she went to the NCAA Tournament three times, was named an All-American and First Team All-Big East twice, and the Big East Player of the Year as a junior. She was one of the most dominant setters in the country, piling up over 1000 assists in each of her seasons at Creighton. She helped lead her team to the Elite Eight in 2016 and round of 32 in 2017. I love that she has trained under two of the best coaches in the game today in Dave Shondell and Kirsten Bernthal Booth. While getting a masters at the University of South Carolina, she also played two seasons of beach volleyball, making it to the NCAA tournament in 2018."
Dimke finished her indoor career with 2,769 assists, averaging 8.37 a set. Offensively, she racked up 319 kills with a hitting percentage of .319, while adding 70 service aces. Defensively, she picked up 749 digs and made 144 total blocks. Throughout the course of her career, Dimke garnered numerous awards and honors, listed at the bottom of this page.
"Lydia will be able to come in right away and make an impact in our program," boasted Rosen. "She will work closely with our setters and help develop the speed of our offense. She will bring new ideas and strategies learned during her playing career under such great coaches. She will help with recruiting, especially in the Midwest. Lydia has an incredible personality and strong faith that will resonate with our student-athletes.
"With our roster and coaching staff set for 2019, I could not be more excited for the fall to arrive. Let's Go Sharks!"
