HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | The Sharks were the first to draw blood with a kill by
Ally Ford, holding onto their lead until the Fighting Knights came back to tie it up at 8-8. From there, NSU used a 6-2 run to take a 14-10 lead and force Lynn to use their first timeout. After a couple back-and-forth points, another kill by Ford inspired a six unanswered points by the Sharks, giving the home squad a commanding 22-12 lead, their largest of the set. At set point, Lynn attempted the comeback, one that included four service aces by starting outside hitter Marine Kinna, and got within three, 24-21, before a kill by Sami Spardaro gave NSU the set one.
SET 2 | Lynn was the team to earn the early advantage, going up 7-3 before NSU took away their momentum with a timeout. A 3-0 run capped with a kill by Spadaro brought NSU within one at 7-6 and the game was eventually tied at 9-9 thanks to a Fighting Knights hitting error. The Sharks took a two-point lead at 13-11 thanks to a kill by Ford, and a three-point lead at 15-12 after a Lynn hitting error. From there, LU rattled off five-straight points for a 17-15 edge as NSU used their final timeout. Coming down tot the wire and trailing by a single point at 22-21, the Sharks closed out the set with 4-0 run starting and ending with kills by Ford to take an overall 2-0 lead.
SET 3 | At 11-7 with Lynn leading the way, a kill by
Amanda Hall sparked a 5-1 run by NSU to tie it up at 12-12 and force a Lynn timeout. The Fighting Knights responded with a 6-1 run of their own to take back the lead at 18-13 as NSU used a timeout of their own in hopes of slowing the visitor down. Lynn had other ideas, and went on to outscore the Sharks 7-4 to close out set three and force a fourth set with a 25-17 win.
SET 4 | Leading 4-1 in the fourth, the Sharks were overtaken by the Knights, as they 5-1 run to go up 6-5. The Sharks were able to stay within three until a kill by Lynn's Kinna put them up 14-10, forcing a Sharks timeout. A ball handling error by LU's setter brought NSU within one at 18-17, but that would be as close as they would get as Lynn went on to take set four 25-20 to force a fifth and final set.
SET 5 | Lynn was the team to grab the early advantage, going up by four at 7-3. After a quick NSU timeout, the Sharks returned to the floor to tie the game at 8-8 thanks to kills by Ford,
Alex Boone and Hall. A kill by
Brittany Landrum gave NSU the lead at 11-10, but a 5-1 run by the Fighting Knights sealed the deal, as Lynn walked away with the overall 3-2 victory.
