No. 5 Sharks Sweep Through Tuesday Twinbill Against Daemen and Hillsdale

Nova Southeastern has now swept 9-of-14 tennis opponents in 2020

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 5 Nova Southeastern Sharks women's tennis team (13-1) took in a twinbill on Tuesday, back in the friendly confines of the NSU Tennis Center, delivering two of the most complete and dominating performances of the year in downing Daemen (N.Y.) and Hillsdale via back-to-back sweeps. The Sharks have now swept 9-of-14 opponents in the 2020 campaign.
 
DAEMEN DOUBLES
  • The Sharks put the Wildcats away early, only allowing two doubles points across the three matches, led off by Ivana Djordjevic and Isabella Lowrey with a 6-1 finish over Emily Clough/Erica Jasinski in the second flight.
  • Next to the finish, Daniela Obando and Tingting Pei scored a 6-1 victory at No. 1 over Christina Stasiuk and Lena Gruber to secure the team point.
  • Rounding out the sweep, Celia Montero Estevan and Caitlyn Khan combined for their first victory as a tandem with a 6-0 win over Courtney Otis and Mackenzie Schayes at No. 3.
DAEMEN SINGLES
  • The Sharks rolled through the Wildcats on the singles courts with no Daemen player scoring more than a pair in any set; Diane Follin-Arbelet opening up the wins on a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Clough at No. 4.
  • Khan folIowed at No. 6 with her fourth win of the year, topping Schayes, 6-0, 6-0.
  • Scoring the fourth point for NSU to claim the win in the third flight, Montero Estevan went 6-0, 6-1 past Jasinski.
  • Djordjevic also earned her fourth win in 2020 on a 6-0, 6-1 win over Otis at five.
  • No. 38 Obando added a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Stasiuk at No. 2, while Karolina Snita rounded out the 80-minute match on a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Gruber.
HILLSDALE DOUBLES
  • Now playing at No. 3 doubles, Lowrey and Djordjevic kicked things off in the 3:00 p.m. match on a 6-1 win over Ellie Chawner and Tatum Matthews.
  • NCAA No. 1 pair Natalie Espinal and Sarah Wardenburg downed Katie Bell and Kamryn Matthews, 6-2 for the team doubles point at No. 1. 
  • The No. 2 doubles match was suspended at a 4-4 tie due to rain showers, with Snita and Follin-Arbelet knotted with Sarah Hackman and Sophia Spinazze.
HILLSDALE SINGLES
  • Following a two-hour rain delay with intermittent showers, the Sharks got right back to work where they left off, with Wardenburg quickly dropping a 6-0, 6-0 finish on Canela Luna at No. 4 singles.
  • Follin-Arbelet was also perfect in the sixth flight, defeating Chawner, 6-0, 6-0.
  • Producing the winning point at No. 2 singles, Snita defeated Bell, 6-0, 6-1.
  • NCAA No. 4 Espinal swept past Hackman in the first flight at 6-0, 6-0.
  • Montero Estevan delivered the 6-1, 6-1 victory to put the Sharks on the edge of the sweep against Spinazze at five.
  • Finishing off the 7-0 match for the second time on the day, Pei defeated K. Matthews, 6-4, 6-1 for the final NSU point.

"Nice to get two matches in today before a tough road match up at Rollins this Sunday. It was a long day today with some weather delays and our team stayed focused and finished with great energy and urgency."

UP NEXT
There's a few days out of competition for the Sharks, but NSU heads back out on the road and back into Sunshine State Conference play this weekend, traveling to Winter Park for a matchup at Rollins (5-4) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
