FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fresh off its season-best showing at the Sunshine State Conference Championship earlier this week, the Nova Southeastern men's golf team will look to carry its postseason momentum over into NCAA South Super Regional play after earning the tournament's No. 5 seed this weekend.
The Sharks are one of 13 nationally-ranked programs set to compete among the stacked, 16-team field, with eight apiece selected from the South and Southeast Regions. Tournament action is scheduled to tee off Thursday, May 6 at Streamsong Golf Resort in Bowling Green, Fla.
"After a long year, we are excited to compete with a chance to advance to nationals," said head coach
Joey Marino. "We are playing some great golf right now, with our two best finishes coming back to back. The way we played at the SSC Championship shows we can compete with anyone in the country, and we are excited to do it at Streamsong. The course is going to be an awesome experience for us and I think it really suits our team's game."
Following a bit of an up-and-down season, NSU appears to be peaking at the right time having placed fourth at Barry's Battle and the Shores in early April before finishing runner-up just days ago at the SSC Championship. Front-runner for SSC Freshman of the Year,
Javier Calles collected his third Top-10 of the year after tying for third at the conference tournament, while
Tomas Millet and
Emanuel Olofsson provided plenty of support by tying for ninth and 13
th overall.
The Sharks are joined by Lynn, Barry, Saint Leo and Florida Southern as the representatives from the SSC to make the field. Both West Florida and Lincoln Memorial earned the top seeds in each of their respective regions.
The top four teams, and top individual outside of those four teams, will advance to the NCAA DII National Championship, which will be held at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. from May 17-21.
NSU last won the national championship in 2015.
