O'Neill Leads, Sharks Tied for First at NSU Invitational

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The eighth-ranked Nova Southeastern Men's Golf team tee'd off both rounds one and two of the NSU Shark Invitational on Monday morning from the Grande Oaks Golf Club. The 12-team field includes No. 1 Barry, No. 4 North Georgia, No. 5 Georgia Southwestern, and No. 18 Florida Southern. After the first two rounds, the Sharks are currently tied for the lead with Barry at -1.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Round One) 

  • O'Neill the Sharks leader finished the first round at an even par. He birdied his the third hole, his first of the day, before bogeying the sixth and adding another birdie on eight. On the back-nine, O'Neill, recorded pars on holes 10-17 and bogeyed 18. 

  • Joseba Torres had an excellent start to his day, finishing three-under, following a five-birdie round.  

  • Emanuel Olofsson, starting his day on 18, bogeyed three holes on the front nine but closed out strong with an eagle on eight and a birdie on nine, before recording a par on holes 10-17.  

  • Josep Serra began his day strong, tallying four birdies on the front-nine and adding another pair on the back-nine.  

  • Daniel Celestino finished his opening round one-over-par, and added three birdies in his first round.  

  • Michael Hay started his morning with back-to-back pars before adding a birdie on three. Hay parred the entire back-nine to end his first round.  

HOW IT HAPPENED (Round Two) 

  • O'Neill dominated in the second round, recording six birdies an eagle, finishing the day eight-strikes under-par.  

  • O'Neill (after starting with an eagle on three), birdied seven, nine, 11, 15, 18, and closed his round with a birdie on two. O'Neill leads the tournament after two rounds.  

  • Torres followed with three more birdies in his second round, including two in his final four holes, finishing his afternoon four-strokes under and in sole possession of third place.  

  • In his second round, Olofsson added three birdies to finish an even-par and in a tie for tenth in the tournament.  

  • Serra ended his day in a tie for tenth place with an even-par.  

  • Celestino added another trio of birdies in his second round, but recorded four bogeys to end the afternoon, two strokes over-par.  

  • Hay ended his opening round five strokes over-par. 

  • George Mills (+11) and Christian Munoz (+14) also played for the Sharks.  

UPCOMING 

Nova Southeastern wraps up play at the NSU Shark Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 4., from the Grande Oaks Golf Club. The final round tees off at 8 a.m.
