HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Barry posted the lone red number of the day of (-2) 286 to jump out to an early three-stroke advantage over both Palm Beach Atlantic and Rollins.
  • Saint Leo currently owns sole possession of fourth at three-over par, with both NSU and Lynn locked into fifth at four-over.
  • An up-and-down (-1) 71 has the Sharks' Javier Calles tied for sixth after round one. The sophomore birdied three of his first four holes before running into a bit of trouble in the middle of his round. Calles would close with a one-under effort over the final three holes, though, to close in red.
  • Emanuel Olofsson bounced back from consecutive bogeys on No. 13 and 14 with birdies on No. 15 and 18 to pencil in an even-par opening round. Olofsson currently owns a share of ninth.
  • Jonny Cachon had yet to record a bogey and sat at three-under par through the first 11 holes of the day. However, a tough finish would send Cachon into the clubhouse at two-over par and in a tie for 22nd.
  • Like Cachon, Mike Hay cooled off following a hot start to wrap up the afternoon with a (+3) 75.
  • Freshman Josep Serra shot an opening-round 78 to grab a share of 40th.
STATS OF THE DAY:
  • Calles' six birdies on Sunday ranked tied for second-most in the field.
  • Olofsson's eagle on the Par-5 4th was one of five total in round one.
  • Sunday's opening-round scoring average finished at 75.19.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD:
  • Palm Beach Atlantic's William Hartford currently leads the 55-player field after an opening round of (-6) 66. The six-under par score marks the best single-round performance at the SSC Championship since April 16, 2019.
  • NSU's five SSC Championships rank tied for second all-time, yet the Sharks have failed to win the title since 2012.
  • This year marks the first time the SSC Championship has been held at Grasslands.
