Sharks Set to Host NCAA Regional Tournament

NSU Makes 9th Appearance in NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. - For the third consecutive season under Head Coach Doug Neagle, the Nova Southeastern Sharks Women's Tennis team has advanced to the NCAA tournament. The Sharks enter as the second-ranked team in Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings and will host an NCAA Regional Tournament. 

On May 6-7, a maximum of 48 teams will play a single-elimination tournament at 16 preliminary-round tournaments to determine the 16-team field. There will be 20 conferences that will receive automatic qualification.

NSU (21-3) heads into the playoffs with wins in 9-of-10 matches, with the only loss coming in the Sunshine State Conference tournament championship. The Sharks are anchored by Natalie Espinal, the second-ranked player in Division II, who went 19-1 in singles action for Nova Southeastern on the season. Joining Espinal is doubles partner Chantal Nosievici, the pair went 15-2 on the campaign. 

The Sharks will host Benedict, Auburn-Montgomery, and Sunshine State Conference rival, Saint Leo in the NCAA Regional Tournament beginning on Fri., May 6. Nova Southeastern takes on Benedict to open the tournament with the first serve set for 9 a.m. on Friday morning. 

"We are so pumped to have an opportunity to host the NCAA Regionals this year. This team has worked so hard to earn this and I am so happy for them," said Neagle. The ladies take pride in defending our home courts and we are going to try our best! We know there will be some tough competition and we look forward to the challenge."
