#23 Sharks Split on Day Two of Shark Invitational

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 23rd ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team split a doubleheader against American International and Slippery Rock on the final day of the Shark Invitational presented by Courtyard Marriot and Sheraton Suites (Plantation). The Sharks were defeated by American International in four-sets (25-21, 15-25, 20-25, 19-25), before responding with a three-set sweep over Slippery Rock (25-21, 25-18, 25-22) to close out the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NSU began the match with an early 9-6 advantage over the Yellowjackets, as the Sharks added points from Kate Mihacevich and a Madison Cook service ace to pad the lead.
  • Elizabeth Price recorded two consecutive kills to put NSU in front 14-12 midway through the opening set.
  • Trailing 20-19, the Sharks recorded 6-of-7 points to close out a 25-21 first set win.
  • During the set closing rally for Nova Southeastern, Taylor Stockman, Jordan Chessar and Price each added kills.
  • The Yellowjackets took the lead midway through the second set with a 6-0 rally and the Sharks were unable to reclaim an advantage before dropping the set 15-25.
  • AIC closed out the third set with the final five points, taking a 2-1 lead in the match with a 20-25 set win.
  • Nova Southeastern dropped the final set by a score of 19-25, losing for the first time on the 2022 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NSU began the second match of the day with a 5-1 advantage, as Price recorded two kills to lead the early charge.
  • Slippery Rock responded and took the lead at 8-10, but it was short-lived as Stockman tallied another kill to put NSU in front 11-10.
  • Grace Green went to serve and sparked a 9-0 rally for the Sharks, as the graduate transfer recorded two service aces during the run, giving NSU a 20-11 lead.
  • Chessar sealed the set win with a kill, as the Sharks opened the match with a 25-21 set one win.
  • In the second set, Aleyna Kennel and Price led another long rally for Nova Southeastern. Kennel recorded three service aces, while Price added a pair of kills to put NSU in front 12-4.
  • Price put the Sharks ahead 15-5, following a service ace.
  • NSU cruised to the second set victory, as Kate Mihacevich recorded the final kill, sealing a 25-18 set victory.
  • Nova Southeastern held off a late Slippery Rock run in the third set, earning the Sharks fourth sweep of the season, and improving to 6-1 on the season.
