Sharks Fall Versus Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team was defeated in four sets by the Florida Tech Panthers in Sunshine State Conference action on Tuesday evening.

How it Happened
  • The Panthers began the first set on a 9-2 run, as the Sharks trailed early in the match. 
  • Taylor Stockman sparked a 6-0 rally for NSU, which also included back-to-back service aces from Olivia Aniol, a pair of blocks from Brittany Landrum and two points from Kate Mihacevich, putting the score at 12-10. 
  • NSU rallied to claim the lead at 15-14, following a block from Stockman and Landrum
  • However, the Sharks were unable to win the frame and dropped the opening set 25-19. 
  • In the second set, Stockman started another run for NSU, helping Nova Southeastern take a 6-5 lead. 
  • Both SSC foes traded points back-and-forth for much of the second set, as the score was tied at 12-12.
  • The Sharks and Panthers continued to battle in the second set. NSU trailed 22-18 but another rally by Nova Southeastern tied the frame at 22-22. 
  • Florida Tech took the second frame 25-23 over NSU
  • Trailing 2-0 in the match, Nova Southeastern began the third set on a 5-1 run, as Gabrielle Spankus began the frame with a service ace. 
  • NSU continued to roll in the beginning of the third set, as Stockman, Aniol and Elizabeth Price all tallied points to push the Sharks' advantage to 8-2.
  • Consecutive blocks from Aniol and Price gave the Sharks a 22-13 lead in the frame.
  • NSU capitalized on a pair of errors by the Panthers, finishing off the third set with a 25-14 win.
  • Nova Southeastern and Florida Tech exchanged points back-and-forth to begin the fourth set, as the set was tied at 11-11. 
  • Stockman tallied two consecutive points, while Price and Aniol each added points of their own, giving NSU a 16-14 lead in the fourth set. 
  • Florida Tech claimed the final frame 25-21 over NSU.
