Sharks Honor Senior Class against Barry

Chessar, Mihacevich, Landrum, Price honored by NSU Volleyball program

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - After dropping the first two sets of the match, the Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball rallied to force a decisive fifth-set, but fell just short as NSU was defeated in five-sets by Sunshine State Conference rival Barry in the second match of the "County-Line Cup" on Saturday evening from the Rick Case Arena. 

Prior to the match, Nova Southeastern Athletics honored four Shark Senior student-athletes - Jordan Chessar, Kate Mihacevich, Brittany Landrum and Elizabeth Price.

  • Barry took an 11-6 lead over NSU in the opening frame.
  • Kate Mihacevich started an 8-2 run, as the Sharks rallied to take a 14-13 advantage.
  • During the run, Mihacevich recorded two points, while Elizabeth Price, Olivia Aniol and Juliana Imbuzeiro tallied points.
  • NSU and Barry traded points back-and-forth for the remainder of the frame, as the Sharks even battled back from set point, with a 3-0 run, tying the score at 24-24. 
  • Barry took the first set in extra points, as Nova Southeastern fell 29-27. 
  • The Buccaneers took the early momentum in the second set, leading 10-4. 
  • Nova Southeastern was unable to cut the Barry lead to less than six in the frame, dropping the set 25-18. 
  • The Sharks and Buccaneers traded points throughout the early moments of the third set, before a kill from Brittany Landrum spurred a 6-0 rally and gave NSU a 14-10 lead. 
  • Aniol recorded three points later in the set, pushing the Nova Southeastern advantage to 18-13. 
  • Barry rallied to tie the frame at 21-21, but NSU prevailed and won the third set 25-23. 
  • The Sharks continued their momentum into the fourth set, taking an early 5-2 lead following kills from Landrum and Price. 
  • Aniol and Mihacevich recorded kills for NSU, extending the lead to 9-5. 
  • Landrum added another pair of kills, helping the Sharks push the advantage to 16-9.
  • Landrum, Stockman, and Emerson Deferme sealed the 25-18 fourth set win for NSU, as the Sharks forced a fifth set.
  • After falling behind 9-5 in the final frame, the Sharks rallied to score five consecutive points and claimed a 10-9 lead. 
  • Barry finished off the match, winning the final set 15-13.
