Late Home Runs Power Sharks Past Eagles

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team responded to a series opening loss and evened the Sunshine State Conference series against the Embry-Riddle Eagles with a 6-4 victory on Saturday afternoon at the NSU Baseball Complex.

How it Happened
  • The Eagles were aggressive at the plate in the opening frame, as the first four batters all reached base, and gave Embry-Riddle an early 2-0 lead. 
  • Two consecutive walks, with two outs, from Zeth Rodriguez and Boris Pena gave NSU a spark in the bottom half of the frame. Kristian Noriega followed with an RBI single, driving in Rodriguez, and cutting the deficit to 2-1. 
  • Bryan Loriga came into score on a wild pitch, in the bottom of the third inning, tying the game at 2-2. 
  • Alex Valentin settled in after the opening frame, holding the Eagles off the scoreboard through the fifth inning. 
  • The Sharks took a 4-2 lead after Kolbe Aven came through with a two-run double, driving in both Pena and Kristian Noriega, in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • Embry-Riddle responded with a pair of runs in the following inning, tying the game at 4-4. 
  • Landon Lowe hit a solo home run, his first of the season, giving NSU a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. 
  • Pena added an insurance run for the Sharks with his sixth home run of the season, extending Nova Southeastern's advantage to 6-4.
  • Michael Dillon closed out the game for his first save of the year, as the Sharks took the 6-4 victory over Embry-Riddle.
