OCALA, Fla. – For the second time this season, the Nova Southeastern University women's swimming relay team of
Kristina Orban,
Zsofia Kurdi,
Maxine Egner and
Maya Esparza has rewritten the national record books.
At the Sunshine State Conference Championships, the Sharks' 200-yard freestyle relay team delivered a historic performance, touching the wall in 1:30.04 to set a new national record. That time eclipsed the previous mark of 1:30.05 set by Queens University of Charlotte on March 15, 2018 — breaking the record by one one-hundredth of a second.
The record-setting time marks the second national record of the season for the quartet. In January, Orban, Kurdi, Egner, and Esparza set a new national record in the 400-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 3:17.92 to further cement their place among the fastest relay groups in Division II history.
Through 28 events at the SSC Championships, the Nova Southeastern women sit in second place in the team standings with 696 points, trailing only the University of Tampa (816) and just ahead of Lynn University (406). On the men's side, Nova Southeastern currently stands third overall with 403 points, also behind Tampa (721 points) and Lynn (410.5).
With two national records already secured this season, the Sharks continue to build momentum and will look to finish strong at the Conference Championships. To stay up-to-date on the Sharks, follow on Instagram and X at NSU_Swim.
