D'Agostino Earns NFCA Player of the Week After Two Grand Slam, 12 RBI Weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After an all-time weekend from freshman Christina D'Agostino, her efforts did not go unnoticed being named the Division II Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Player of the Week for contests played March 16-23.

Christina D'Agostino went 5-for-10 at the plate in the Sharks' sweep of Rollins on the road over the weekend. But it wasn't just her batting average that got her the honors.

D'Agostino hit three home runs, one in each game of the series, two of which were grand slams and the other a three-run shot bringing her to 12 RBI on the weekend.

She got four RBI in each of the three games in the series and already has four four-RBI games this season.

The freshman has already been having a season to remember as the series against the Tars brings her to seven home runs on the season and 32 RBI.

"We are extremely excited for Christina on her recognition as the NFCA Player of the Week! This was an incredible weekend to witness Stina in action, her offensive approach was so poised and confident, which made her extraordinarily difficult to pitch to," Nova Southeastern softball head coach Julie LeMaire said. "In all of my years of coaching I don't think I have ever witnessed 2 grand slams and a 3-run homerun out any athlete in one weekend, let alone in their Freshman year. This is a very special recognition for Stina, we are so proud of her! She is deserving of this recognition!"

The performance at the plate helped the Sharks score 35 combined runs across the three-game set in Winter Park and secured NSU its first conference series sweep of the season.

D'Agostino is the first Nova Southeastern player to receive the NFCA Player of the Week honor since current assistant coach, Sydney Lageyre, in 2020 after she went on a 12-game hitting streak with eight of those games coming with multiple hits.

The awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA's eight regions.

Christina and the Sharks are back home at the NSU Softball Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m. to begin a three-game conference series with Palm Beach Atlantic. Tickets are available HERE.
