Jorge Ospina (Sr., Lazimillos, Venezuela) helped the first-year NSU men's swim team capture the first-ever Sunshine State Conference title. He paced the Sharks in multiple events posting NCAA "A" automatic qualifying times in the 500-yard freestyle (4:28.80) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.84). He also swam the first leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:42.40) and the butterfly leg of the men's 400-yard medley relay (3:18.62) both of which posted NCAA "A" automatic qualifying times for NCAA Division II nationals. He also posted "B" cut times int he 100-yard butterfly (49.29), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:03.07), and the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.93). Ospina's efforts at the SSC swim meet earned him SSC Male Swimmer of the Meet honors voted on by the head coaches of all five SSC teams.
