FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Feb. 7, 2007) - The Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team (8-15, 6-6 SSC) downed the Saint Leo University Lions 69-61 in overtime (6-16, 3-8 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday evening in the NSU University Center Arena.

Sharks senior forward Jennifer Havens (Ontario, Ore.) scored a game-high 21 points, while senior point guard Mechelle Jones (Rockledge, Fla.) who netted 16 points, and forward Amber Bishko (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) scored 15 points as NSU had three players in double-figure scoring.

Havens is 13 points shy of reaching the 1000-point plateau in her career, and would be just the second player in the nine-year history of the women's basketball program to reach that milestone.

NSU shot 43.1% (22-for-51) to 42.6 % (23-54) by Saint Leo, in the see-saw contest that featured six ties and five lead changes. The Sharks capitalized on 22 Lions turnovers and converted the miscues into 29 points in the key SSC win.

Saint Leo guard Roni Carithers registered a team-high 14 points and forward Chemeka Amos tallied 13 points for the visitors.

The NSU women close out the home-potion of their schedule on Saturday evening at 5:30 PM, when the Eckerd College Tritons visit the University Center Arena. The game marks Senior Night for the women's basketball team, as Mechelle Jones and Jennifer Havens will play in front of the home crowd one final time.
