NSU Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight

Stephanie Sarosi Records Eighth Double-Double; Sharks Set for Showdown Against Lynn on Saturday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (January 23, 2008) - NSU center Stephanie Sarosi (So., Mims, Fla.) recorded her eighth double-double in 13 games played, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 25 minutes of play, as the Nova Southeastern Sharks (12-5, 5-1 SSC) defeated the Florida Tech Panthers (10-7, 2-4) by a score of 84-60 on Wednesday night at NSU's University Center Arena. The win extends NSU's winning streak to a season-high five games and continues the Sharks' best start in program history.

After Ashley Wilson (Sr., Coral Springs, Fla.) opened the scoring with a three-pointer, the Sharks would open the game on an 18-6 run, capped by a conventional three-point play converted by Christine Haber (Sr., Libertyville, Ill.). NSU would lead by as much as 16, 26-10, with 5:51 left in the half and coasted into the locker room with a 34-23 lead at the half.

Sarosi did most of her damage in the first half, scoring 18 points to go along with nine rebounds in the stanza.

In the second half, the Panthers closed the gap to 38-29 with 16:28 left following a jumper from Casselle Russell but Florida Tech would get no closer as the Sharks would push their lead back to 26 points after a made three by point guard Abbie Tepe (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) with 9:12 remaining.

Using the bench for the rest of the game, the Sharks would get solid contributions from the reserves as NSUs bench would score 25 points, including nine from Haber, eight from LaShawnna Edwards (So., North Miami Beach, Fla.) and five rebounds from Lauren Marshall (Fr., Rapid River, Mich.), despite only playing nine minutes. Edwards also grabbed 10 rebounds in limited action.

Among the starters, Wilson and Amber Bishko (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) each scored 10 points while Tepe and Eliza Allen (Jr., Hegenheim, France) scored eight and nine points, respectively. As a team, NSU shot a blistering 61.8 percent from the field in the second half and 46.4 percent for the entire game.

NSU will return to action on Saturday, January 26 as they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on the Lynn University Fighting Knights at 5:30pm at Lynn's deHornle Center. With both teams at 5-1 and Tampa, who is idle on Saturday at 6-1, Lynn and NSU will be playing for a chance to force a tie atop the Sunshine State Conference standings.
