MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Dec. 30, 2008) - Never trailing throughout the game, Nova Southeastern University's women's basketball team stunned Shaw 75-60 on Tuesday afternoon in Barry University's Tournament held at the Health & Sports Center.

The Sharks got key performances from Eliza Allen (Sr., Hegenheim, France) and Stephanie Sarosi (Jr., Mims, Fla.). Allen totaled 16 of her 19 total points during the first half, which included a 4-for-4 showing from three-point range. Allen concluded with 5-of-5 shooting from long range and was 7-for-9 from the field. Meanwhile, Sarosi had a 15-point second half en route to recording a game-high 22 points.

NSU jumped out to an 11-point lead at the 15:15 mark as the Sharks had a 15-4 lead that include a pair of Allen treys and five made free throws. The Sharks eventually made it a 21-8 game with Sarosi hitting a shot from beyond the arc at 12:58.

Shaw, who received votes in the most recent USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll, cut NSU's lead down to four, using an 11-2 run that was capped by Quaticqua Johnson's jumper at 8:33 to make it 23-19. The Sharks built a pair of seven point leads, including taking a 31-24 advantage off a layup by LaShawnna Edwards (Jr., Miami, Fla.) with 2:40 left in the half. The Bears quickly made it a two-point game with a Celanese Bozeman three-pointer and a Jan'el Baxter jumper. However, back-to-back Allen three-pointers and a layup by Abbie Tepe (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) in the final 1:20 gave NSU the 39-29 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, NSU gradually began to pull away from the Bears. A pair of free throws by Sarosi at 12:42 allowed NSU to hold a 17-point, 52-35 lead.

The Bears eventually pulled to within 10 on two occasions, including at the 6:43 mark with Tanisha McGaughey making both shots from the charity stripe to make it a 60-50 game.

NSU continued to pull away from Shaw as a jumper by Edwards at 5:49 started a 12-4 run that resulted in the Sharks taking a 72-56 lead with 1:32 remaining. The Sharks eventually took another 17-point advantage with Lauren Marshall (So., Gladstone, Mich.) making a layup, drawing the foul and sinking her free throw shot.

The Sharks shot 61.9 percent from the floor in the first half en route to shooting 55.1 percent (27-for-49) for the game. Shaw was 34.3 percent from the floor (23-for-67). However, the Bears held the edge in rebounds (37-36) and steals (11-9).

In addition to her 22 points, Sarosi pulled down 11 boards for her fifth double-double of the season. Edwards swiped a game-high five balls, while Tepe dished out six assists.

Bozeman led the Bears with 18 points, while McGaughey chipped in with 11. Rebecca Hippolite totaled a game-high 12 rebounds.

NSU concludes play at the Barry University Tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 31 when the Sharks face Flagler at the Health & Sports Center. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
