FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2009) - Behind a 36-point second-half performance, Nova Southeastern University's women's basketball team stunned No. 13 Barry 62-56 on Wednesday night at the University Center. With the win, NSU improves to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in the Sunshine State Conference, while Barry falls to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the SSC.

With the score tied 4-4 in the first half, Barry put together an 11-2 run en route to taking a nine-point 15-6 lead at the 13:37 mark. However, NSU fought back, using a 9-0 run that knotted the game up 15-all. Erin Zampell (Fr., Naples, Fla.) made the game-tying layup at 8:26.

The Sharks took a pair of four-point leads before back-to-back baskets by Princess Bailey allowed Barry to tie the game at 21-21, while Mariesa Greene hit the go-ahead jumper with 3:57 remaining. However, a three-pointer by Tara Haddock (Jr., Citrus Springs, Fla.) returned the lead to NSU. Stephanie Sarosi (Jr., Mims, Fla.) hit a jumper at 2:34 that put the Sharks up by three. However, a trey from Bailey with six seconds to tied the game at 26-all heading into halftime.

Control of the second half flip-flopped between the two teams throughout the first part of the half. With Barry up 43-42, NSU got a pair of three-point plays from Abbie Tepe (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) and LaShawnna Edwards (Jr., Miami, Fla.) that resulted in the Sharks having a five-point cushion with 7:30 to go. However, a three-pointer from Kristy Singletary and a pair of Greene foul shots allowed Barry to tie the game up at 48-all.

The Sharks built up two more five-point leads, only to have Barry cut their advantage down to one. After Singletary made two shots from the charity stripe with 41 seconds left to make it 57-56 in favor of NSU, the Sharks sealed the victory with six made free throws in the final 22 seconds.

NSU shot 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the floor, while Barry was 40.0 percent (20-for-50). The Sharks also outrebounded the Buccaneers 35-24.

Sarosi led the game in points and rebounds with 20 and eight, respectively. Meanwhile, Tepe chipped in 16 points and three steals.

Both Bailey and Greene scored a team-high 16 points, while Kia Palmer led Barry with seven rebounds.

NSU is back in action on Saturday when the Sharks host Rollins in SSC action at the University Center. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
