SAINT LEO, Fla. (Jan. 30, 2010) - In this season's first meeting between Nova Southeastern University women's basketball and Saint Leo, a single overtime was needed to determine the outcome.

In the second meeting of the season, double overtime was needed. However, Saint Leo outscored the Sharks 17-6 in the second overtime as NSU fell 80-69 on Saturday afternoon at the Bowman Center.

"Again, our girls played their hearts out and played well enough to win," said head coach Marilyn Rule. "It's hard to finish a game strong when you miss 19 free throws, including 10 in the second half. We will continue to work on improving and getting better each day."

In the first half, there was balanced scoring among the Sharks with eight players each registering points. Meloney Fosburgh (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) scored NSU's first six points. Her six points were the most to be scored by an NSU player in the opening half.

After trailing 6-4 through the first media timeout, NSU held the Lions scoreless for close to seven minutes while using an 11-0 run to go up 15-6 with 8:59 left in the half. A layup by Fosburgh at 13:33 began the run, while a LaShawnna Edwards (Sr., Miami, Fla.) ended the run with two straight buckets.

Saint Leo came to within three on two occasions, but the Sharks gradually built upon their lead. A pair of foul shots by Rheisa Burke (Fr., Port Charlotte, Fla.) with 45 seconds gave NSU an eight-point lead as the Sharks entered halftime with a 25-17 lead.

In the second half, NSU got up to an early 10-point advantage with a layup by Stevie Kamp (So., Mesa, Ariz.) at 18:13 that made it 29-19. However, Saint Leo began to chip away at the Sharks' lead and went ahead 36-35 on a Brittany Carannante three-pointer at 12:18. Carannante's three-pointer was also the first to be made of the game by either team.

Saint Leo got up to as many as five twice, including at 2:14 as Dominique Daniels sank a pair of foul shots to make it 54-49. NSU erased the Lions' lead in the final two minutes and Burke hit a layup at 34 seconds that tied the game at 54-all and ultimately sent the game into overtime.

NSU led by as many as three with a Fosburgh layup at 2:19 gave the Sharks a 60-57 edge. The Lions regained the advantage behind a Willonda William layup and a Daniels jumper. After Erin Zampell (So., Naples, Fla.) evened the score at 61-61 with a free throw, Windam hit a jumper with 30 seconds remaining to allow the Lions to take a two-point lead. However, Burke hit another game-tying layup, this time with 14 seconds left in order to send the game into double overtime.

Most of Saint Leo's points came from the foul line as the Lions made 10 free throws on 12 attempts.

NSU shot 34.8 percent for the game (24-69), while Saint Leo was 41.1 percent (30-for-73). Saint Leo also held a 55-46 advantage in rebounds.

Fosburgh led the Sharks with 16 points and was 7-for-10 from the field. Abbie Tepe (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) chipped in with 13 points. Kamp had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Windham and Daniels paced the Lions, each with a double-double. Windham had a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double. Daniels tallied 19 points and 15 boards.

NSU returns to action on Wednesday when the Sharks host No. 16 Tampa. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center.
