Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s soccer team (9-4-1, 5-1-1 SSC) defeated the Lynn University Fighting Knights (5-7-2, 2-6-0 SSC), 1-0, in a Sunshine State Conference match Tuesday evening at the NSU Soccer Complex. Senior midfielder Alexis Hernandez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) tallied her fifth game winning goal of the season with 1:24 left in the match.

Before the match, seniors Hernandez, Fiorella Booth (Miami, Fla.), Susie Lee (New Hope, Minn.), Kesiah Wattley (Panama City Panama), Shanoska Young (Kingston, Jamaica), and Lauren Saigh (Sterling Heights, Mich.) were all honored during the annual senior day activities.

The beginning of the match saw Lynn pressuring the back line of the Sharks, firing three shots in the early minutes, but they would not find a shot for the rest of the half. The Sharks responded with offensive pressure of there own, booting 10 total shots for the remainder of the half, but were unable to convert.

After 45 minutes of action, the Sharks held a 2-1 advantage in shots-on-goal, while edging the Fighting Knights 3-0 in corner kicks.

Following halftime, the Sharks offense looked to strike quickly. Young narrowly missed a header in the top center of the net from a cross from Hernandez in the 64th minute of action to give NSU the lead.

In the 89th minute of play, Hernandez found the back of the net for the 10th time this season. She caught up to a through ball on the right side of box delivered by Young to give the Sharks the, 1-0, edge. The goal earned her a tie for fifth in single-season goals NSU record book.

Junior goalkeeper Chrissy Hy (Weston, Fla.) recorded two saves in the match, upping her season total to 62.

Overall, the Sharks finished with a 19-6 advantage in total shots, while also edging the Fighting Knights 6-2 in shots-on-goal. NSU also led in corner kicks 7-1 for the match.
