MIAMI, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball (6-1) pounded on Florida Memorial en route to a 93-56 win on Wednesday night in Miami, Fla.
With 93 points, the Sharks, who are receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 poll for the second straight week, tied the NSU school record for third in most points in a game. In addition, the 37 point margin of victory is the fourth best in school history.
Tonight, 13 of the 14 players that touched the court added a point to the scorebook. The Sharks were led by senior center
Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) who had a game-high 14 points.
Senior
Meloney Fosburgh (Phoenix, Ariz.) set a new career high in the first half as she muscled six points in the paint, totaling 11 for the game. Senior
Lauren Marshall (Gladstone, Mich.) was just one point shy of tying her career high as she ended the game with 10.
In a game where the Sharks had set many season highs, the most impressive stat of the night was NSU shot 52 percent from the field, registering 36 field goals.
The Sharks tied their season high hitting nine shots from behind the arc, getting two apiece from Marshall and true freshman
Jessica Russi (Lake Mary, Fla.).
Defensively, the Sharks held Florida Memorial to only 16 field goals and out rebounded the Lions, 46-33.
With Florida Memorial gaining first possession on the tip, the Sharks found themselves in the hole early as the Lion’s Yushanda Bowe hit a three. Freshman
Jasmine Wilkins (Miami, Fla.) quickly laid in two baskets to give NSU a 4-3 lead. The Sharks once again went down early as Bowe hit Florida Memorial’s second three of the night.
After junior
Quinessa Johnson (West Chester, Ohio) scored on the other end of the court for the Sharks at the 17:51 mark, the defense did not let the Lions tact on another basket for nearly four minutes.
Russi hit her first three of the night with 12:38 remaining and help guide the Sharks to a double-digit lead at 24-13. For the rest the night, NSU never gave up its double-digit lead.
The Sharks shot an impressive 54 percent (19-35) in the first half, the highest so far this season.
To begin the second half, the Sharks started on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes, eight coming from Sarosi.
NSU’s bench scored 58 points in tonight’s victory.
With 2:29 left, the Sharks reached the 90 point mark for only the fifth time in school history.
The Sharks will begin Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 4th as they travel to Winter Park, Fla. to battle with Rollins at 2 p.m.
