FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (6-1 overall, 0-0 SSC) will face off against Rollins College (7-0 overall, 0-0 SSC) for its first Sunshine State Conference game of the year on Saturday in Winter Park at 1 p.m.
The Sharks are coming off one of its best wins of the season with a 93-56 pounding of Florida Memorial on Wednesday, Dec. 1st.
With 93 points, the Sharks, who are receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 poll for the second straight week, tied the NSU school record for third in most points in a game. In addition, the 37 point margin of victory is the fourth best in school history. NSU shot 51 percent from the field, totaling 36 field goals.
Defensively, the Sharks held Florida Memorial to only 16 field goals and out rebounded the Lions, 53-38.
NSU is currently outscoring its opponents, 74 to 61.
Senior
Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) is leading the charge for the Sharks with 16.0 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game. Senior point guard
Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio) is NSU’s top assist leader averaging 5.6 per game.
About Rollins
The Lions are perfect on the season with a 7-0 record and currently claim the top spot in the Sunshine State Conference. They won in their last contest on Nov. 27 against Georgia Southwestern 80-50. In six of their seven games, the Tars have had a different leading scorer. Kristina Mingos had a season high 23 points against Georgia Southwestern in the win.
Rollins currently has two players who are averaging double-digit points in Mingos (12.0) and Sarah Blackburn (10.3). Mingos is also the Tars top rebounder averaging 6.6 rpg.
The Tars average 75 points per game and hold their opponents to 47.
The Series vs. Rollins
This is the 22nd meeting between the two teams. The Tars have a 16-5 lead in the series and fell to Rollins in both meetings last season. The last time the Sharks defeated Rollins was on Jan. 17, 2009, where NSU shocked the No. 8 team in the country with a 53-45 win. Jan. 16, 2008 is the last time the Sharks beat Rollins in its home arena.
The Sharks senior class is 3-3 against the Tars since 2007.
