No. 24 Women's Tennis Tops Saint Leo, 6-3

Sharks snap five-match skid with Saturday's victory

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Mar. 13, 2010) - No. 24 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team won two doubles and four singles matches on Saturday en route to defeating Saint Leo 6-3 at the NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills. With the win, the Sharks improve to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo falls to 5-9 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

The Sharks won both of their doubles matches by 8-1 scores. Justine Feaster (So., Escondido, Calif.) and Karolina Porizkova (Sr., Prostejov, Czech Republic) won at No. 1 doubles, downing Shaena Keefe and Jeanette McDonald. Mary Crider (Sr., Georgetown, Texas) and Paige Lindsley (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) defeated Gina Schifano and Christine Clyne at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 doubles, Chloe Andersson and Tamara Bustard had an 8-4 win over Blake Bauer (Fr., Miami, Fla.) and Federica Longo (Fr., Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Although NSU fell in the top two singles positions in three sets, the Sharks easily took No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles in two sets. Bauer topped Clyne 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot, while Crider went 6-0, 6-1 over Schifano at No. 4 singles. Longo had a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Andersson in No. 5 singles, while Lindsley won at the No. 6 spot by defeating Bustard 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot. At No. 1 singles, McDonald defeated Porizkova 6-1, 1-6, 11-9, while Keefe had a 0-6, 7-6, 10-6 win over Feaster at No. 2 doubles.

NSU continues with its home-stand next week when the Sharks host three NCAA Division I teams. The Sharks begin the week with a match against Towson on Monday at 10 a.m., at the NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills.
