No. 24 NSU Women's Tennis Cruises Past Eckerd, 8-1

Sharks win all three doubles and five singles

St. Petersburg, Fla. (Mar. 27, 2010) - No. 24 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team won its first match of its five-match road trip on Saturday with an 8-1 Sunshine State Conference victory over Eckerd. The win improves the Sharks to 6-8 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. The Tritons drop to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the SSC.

The Sharks swept the doubles competition. Justine Feaster (So., Escondido, Calif.) and Karolina Porizkova (Sr., Prostejov, Czech Republic) posted an 8-2 victory over Emmy Laing and Amanda Teets in the No. 1 slot. At No. 2 doubles, Elisa Leeder (Sr., Eisenhuettenstadt, Germany) and Blake Bauer (Fr., Miami, Fla.) downed Manon Ironside and Stephanie Jenks 8-3. Mary Crider (Sr., Georgetown, Texas) and Paige Lindsley (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) defeated Telara Buelow and Christine Hammerschmidt 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

NSU also got five points in singles play. Leeder topped Jenks 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Feaster rallied for a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-6 victory over Teets in the No. 3 slot. Crider added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ironside at No. 4 singles. The Sharks swept both No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Lindsley topped Hammerschmidt 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 slot, while Federica Longo (Fr., Buenos Aires, Argentina) cruised past Buelow at No. 6 singles.

Eckerd's only point came at No. 1 singles as Laing defeated Porizkova 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).

NSU returns to action tomorrow when the Sharks travel to No. 10 Rollins. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
