Women's Tennis Blanks Saint Leo 5-0 in SSC Tournament

Sharks advance to Fifth-Place Match vs. Florida Tech on Saturday

Lakeland, Fla. (Apr. 16, 2010) - Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team shutout Saint Leo 5-0 in one of the two back draw matches in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament held Friday afternoon at Beerman Tennis Facility.

The Sharks, who are seeded fifth in the tournament and ranked 27th nationally, will now play in the Fifth-Place Match on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. NSU (8-12) will face fourth-seeded 21st-nationally ranked Florida Tech, who defeated Eckerd 5-0 in the other back draw match. Meanwhile, Saint Leo (7-14) will play Eckerd in the Seventh-Place Match.

NSU took all three of the doubles matches. Karolina Porizkova (Sr., Prostejov, Czech Republic) and Justine Feaster (So., Escondido, Calif.) defeated Jeanette McDonald and Shaena Keefe 8-4 in the No. 1 position. Mary Crider (Sr., Georgetown, Texas) and Paige Lindsley (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) topped Chloe Andersson and Tamara Bustard 8-1 in No. 2 doubles. At the No. 3 slot, Federica Longo (Fr., Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Blake Bauer (Fr., Miami, Fla.) blanked Christine Clyne and Gina Schifano 8-0.

The Sharks concluded the match by winning two singles. Feaster posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Clyne at No. 3 singles. Longo swept Andersson 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot.
