Women's Tennis Concludes SSC Tournament with Loss to Florida Tech

Sharks await postseason fate

Lakeland, Fla. (Apr. 17, 2010) - Playing in the Fifth-Place Match at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, Nova Southeastern University's women's tennis team fell 5-0 to Florida Tech on Saturday in what was the final day of the tournament.

Florida Tech, seeded fifth and ranked 21st-nationally, took all three doubles. Natalia Ramos and Abigail Greif defeated Karolina Porizkova (Sr., Prostejov, Czech Republic) and Justine Feaster (So., Escondido, Calif.) 8-1 in the No. 1 spot. Katarina Huba and Abbey Keister edged out Mary Crider (Sr., Georgetown, Texas) and Paige Lindsley (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 slot, Andrea Madrigal and Monica Price defeated Federica Longo (Fr., Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Blake Bauer (Fr., Miami, Fla.) 8-4.

The match ended when Florida Tech got the first two singles' points. Ramos, ranked No. 14 nationally, defeated Elisa Leeder (Sr., Eisenhuettenstadt, Germany) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 6 singles, Stephanie Dohner defeated Bauer 6-0, 6-2.

NSU (8-13) will now wait to see if it is selected for the NCAA Tournament. The Sharks, who are ranked No. 27, find out their fate on Wednesday, April 28 when the NCAA announces the teams for the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
