FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Looking to continue its strong start as they did in the first half of the season, the Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team starts the second half of the season on the road against the Eckerd College Tritons. The game will be held in the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Saturday, Jan. 15th at 2 p.m.
With a record of 10-3 (3-1 SSC), they currently hold the third place seed within the Sunshine State Conference. With solid performances from the well recognized seniors and the talented newcomers, the only losses have been to all teams that have been at one point recognized in the national poll.
The Sharks first losses were on the road against No. 21 Metro State and then again three games later to conference opponent to then No. 19 Rollins College, with the third loss of the season has been to Franklin Pierce, then ranked No. 13. Managing to win any game they have scored over 70 points, all matches the Sharks were held to under 65.
Senior Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) has proven to be an asset again to the team as well as a top performer in the SSC as the leading scorer, averaging 17.3 per game and in blocked shots averaging 3.0. Junior transfer Quinessa Johnson (West Chester, Ohio) has been a key guard for the Sharks great success the first half of the season as a team leader in free throw percentage. While senior Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio) played in her 101st game of her career against Barry on Jan. 12th to earn her a spot on NSU’s top-10 career record for games played.
The Sharks have also been led with young talent the first half of the season. Freshman Jasmine Wilkins (Miami, Fla.) has been a consistent performer posting a career high 22 points against Barry. She has been able to grab 11 rebounds in two games and post five steals throughout the first half of the season.
With the best start of a season in the history of the program the Sharks have outscored their opponents 941-879. They posted their fourth highest scoring match in program history on Dec. 1st against Florida Memorial with a 93-56 win. Looking forward to the next match up against the Tritons, the Sharks are ranked one seed higher in the SSC while outscoring them overall by nearly 20 points.

The Tritons 9-5, 3-2 SSC stand fourth in the Sunshine State Conference are lead by Kati Rausberg and Krystal Charles.
The duo are team leaders in almost every category and some of the top ranked players in the SSC. Rausberg is ranked third in the SSC for three point percentage (.494) while Charles is ranked fourth for defensive rebounds (5.4).
Rausberg used her shooting talent to upset the No. 14 ranked Rollins Tars on Jan. 1st at home with five three-pointers and posting 21 points for the Tritons. Charles was able to add eight points and six rebounds and posted four blocked shots. The Tritons were able to snag the win with a put back by Taylor Young to make it 72-71.
The Series vs. Eckerd
The Sharks dominate the series with a 15-7 advantage. The Sharks swept the Tritons in both matchups last season but dropped both in the 2008-09 season.
