Women’s Basketball Gets Bitten By Mocs, 86-56

BOX SCORE

LAKELAND, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (10-7, 3-5 SSC) dropped its fourth straight as the Florida Southern Moccasins (14-3, 7-1 SSC) defeated the Sharks, 86-56, Wednesday night at the Jenkins Field House.

The Sharks trailed since the very beginning of the game as the Mocs started out with an 11-0 run before senior Lauren Marshall (Gladstone, Mich.) hit a trey to register NSU’s first basket.

Marshall hit two three pointers in the first half and finished with three for the game for a total of nine points.

Nova Southeastern headed into the locker room down 37-19. The Sharks shot 32 percent (8-for-25) from the field and did not attempt one free throw attempt in the half.

Marshall, senior Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) were the only Shark players to put points on the board in the first half.

Knowing they had a huge deficit to overcome, senior Meloney Fosburgh (Phoenix, Ariz.) hit a jumper just 10 seconds in the second half.

Fosburgh earned her first start of the season and tallied nine points while grabbing two rebounds.

Unable to string together any runs, NSU was unmatched by Florida Southern.

The Sharks were outscored in the second half, 49-37, marking the 10th time NSU has loss by 30+points.

Nova Southeastern finished the game shooting 36 percent (21-for-58) as Florida Southern shot over 50 percent hitting 17–of-35 shots. The Sharks also committed 23 turnovers in the loss.

Sarosi and Tepe both scored in double-figures with 15 and 14, respectively.

NSU will begin the second half of conference play as they host No. 19 Rollins on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m.
