FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern swimmers
Lauren Chapple (Fr., London, England) and
Armin Hornikel (Sr., Goose Creek, S.C.) have been named Sunshine State Conference women’s and men’s swimmer of the week for the period ending Nov. 13. This marks the second consecutive week the Sharks have won the women’s and men’s honors.
Chapple notched two NCAA “B” standard times and tallied a win over Florida International University in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a time of 2:07.41. That time is the fastest in the SSC so far this season, set a new program record, and achieved a “B” standard.
She then touched the wall with a time of 2:11.18 to beat Indian River State College in the 200-yard individual medley. That time met the “B” standard cutoff and was second in the league to only her own personal best of 2:11.14, which she set earlier this season.
Hornikel posted one individual win and a relay victory to help lift the Sharks to a 135-127 decision over Indian River. Hornikel clocked a time of 57.76 to take first place in the 100-yard breaststroke. His mark was the second fastest in the SSC and achieved an NCAA “B” standard.
He placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.87, which ranks fifth among SSC times this fall. Hornikel also joined the 800-yard freestyle relay team for a first-place time of 6:57.82. Swimming the leadoff leg, his time of 1:43.60 was a “B” standard mark.
